Experience history and celebrate America’s Independence this year at Tenafly’s annual 4th of July celebration.

Tenafly is a quaint community located in New Jersey’s Bergen County filled with historic houses and neighborhoods which celebrates its rich local culture and history. Tenafly’s population is an eclectic mix of long-time residents and growing families who have moved from New York City into quieter, more suburban settings. Tenafly has two historic districts filled with historic homes that require permission from the city before changes to the inside or outside are made. Tenafly’s most notable historic residents include suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton and band leader Glenn Miller.

The 2012 Independence Day festivities in Tenafly are sure to be one of North Jersey’s memorable events. This year’s celebration will be held on Saturday, July 1st so families and all residents can enjoy the day without worrying about having to leave early. In the event of rain, the festivities will be moved to Wednesday, July 4th and the fireworks moved to Tuesday, July 3rd.

Independence Day festivities kick off at 10 a.m. and last until 3 p.m. in the center of town in Roosevelt Commons. There will be a variety of local vendors selling gifts and unique household items along with food vendors, rides for the kids, games, contests and much, much more. At 3 p.m. there will be a skateboard demonstration at Tenafly Skate Park.

Fireworks begin at 9 p.m. behind Tenafly High School on Columbus Drive. The opening festivities give you and your family plenty of time to browse for one-of-a-kind gifts, toys, or clothing at one of the many unique shops in downtown Tenafly. Not interested in shopping? Take a tour of one of the many historic homes or enjoy a meal at the historic Tenafly Railroad Station while waiting for the fireworks to begin.

In addition to its Independence Day Celebration, Tenafly hosts a variety of summer activities including art shows, car shows and local folk music festivals.
