It is home to thousands of people who work in Manhattan and commute daily across the bridge. About one hundred and fifty years later, it was the start of George Washington's retreat across New Jersey during the low point of the Revolution. Fort Lee was also home to many early motion picture companies.
The Fort Lee school district has four elementary schools, one middle school and a high school. Juniors and Seniors are able to earn college credit for work in twenty-five advanced courses. Six bus lines offer service to and from New York City. Residents can get to Newark International Airport in a matter of minutes.
