PARKS & REC/CULTURAL
Harrington Park Swim Club The Club is a non-profit corporation with facilities located on Lafayette Road, opposite Rugen Drive. It provides recreational, instructional and competitive swimming and diving to members and their families from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. It is run by a Board of Trustees comprised of volunteer members who serve for a three-year term. There are two swimming pools. An enclosed wading pool for infants and children up to age 5; and a large pool with swimming areas ranging in depth from 3 to 5 feet and diving area with depths up to 12 feet and 2 one-meter diving boards. There is also a volleyball court, a playground, two ping pong tables, and Restrooms/Showers/Lockers for Men and Women. Harrington Park residents are encouraged to join. All Town parks are under the jurisdiction of the Recreation Commission. Any group wishing to have an organized activity at one of these locations must submit a Field & Recreation Application, which can be obtained online or at Borough Hall. It must be approved by the Recreation Commission which meets monthly, so allow plenty of time.

George St.
Corner of George St. and West Glen Avenue.
Playground area for young children, as well as a field which is used for ice skating in the winter. Picnic table available.
Highland Field
On Tappan Road, just north of Highland Avenue, going East from Lafayette
(Schraalenburgh) (opposite Greenway and Van Orden Streets).
Used for soccer, baseball and other town sports activities. There is a picnic area, a playground for young children and basketball courts. Fields here are used for various sports year-round.
Pondside Park
On Blanch Avenue just west of Lafayette. Brand new track with fitness stations. Very picturesque setting, One ball field and a playground are also available.
Beechwood Park
On Beech St. This 10-acre jewel is reported to contain the second largest Beech Tree in the State.
Tennis Courts
Located at the West end of Hackensack Avenue, these courts are available to town residents by purchasing a Tennis Badge at Borough Hall at a cost of $30/year. The badge admits four players.
The Tennis Association runs tournaments and gives tennis lessons.
Club 60 This social club of senior citizens meets the second Friday of every month except July and August, at the Community Church. All seniors are welcome-Harrington Park residents and those from surrounding towns. The group tries to take a couple of day trips every year. Contact: Marion 201-750-0307
Friends of the Library Since 1991, this group has helped focus attention on the Library by offering programs as well as fund raising. Many of the children's programs offered at the Library are sponsored by the Friends, and it is through their efforts that extra items not afforded through the operating budget are obtained. Meetings are the second Monday of the month at 7 p.m. in the Library's Quantmeyer Room (upstairs). Contact: the library 201-784-8614
Boy Scout Troop 616 Boy Scout Troop 616 is sponsored by the Community Church of Harrington Park. The troop provides an excellent Scouting program with plenty of camping, hiking and fishing. The Troop meets on Monday evenings from September through May. In addition to meetings the Troop plans one weekend event per month, generally a camping trip. The Troop attends one week of Boy Scout Camp in July, usually the first week. Contact: Scoutmaster 201-750-3330
Harrington Park Girl Scouts Whether it's participating in a field trip, attending Camp Glen Spey or performing a community service, Girl Scouting offers girls ages 5 to 17 the opportunity to discover the world around them in a positive, supportive and fun environment

This organization is mostly for philanthropic and service oriented endeavors, although the members are also interested in having fun
Junior Women's Club
The Junior Women's Club is an organization of women which provides community services in its Fund raising, philanthropic and social efforts.

Club activities include guest lecturers, demonstrations, plant exchanges, monthly floral competitions and a town-wide holiday decorating contest. |

SENIORS
Senior Van
In March 2001 we entered into an Interlocal Agreement with the Borough of Haworth and now have a van available to senior citizens Monday through Friday. Seniors just need to call 385-3577 and leave a message with the following information:
1. Date and time that you would like to make use of the van
2. Location that the driver should pick you up (from)
3. Destination that you want to get to
4. Approximate length of visit/When you would like the driver to return to bring you home. You will always get an answering machine, but all messages are picked up daily, Monday thru Friday between 6 and 9 p.m.
You need to give at least 3 days hours notice, but you can book something (i.e. trip for a doctor's appointment) as much as 2-3 months in advance!
Doctor appointments will always take priority over shopping or other trips for pleasure.
The coordinator/driver will call you back to confirm your reservation. In the case of plans made months in advance, and will also call you the night before to re-confirm arrangements. If you have any questions/problems call Borough Hall (768-1700).

Perhaps no single decision in a real estate purchase has more variables than "How much money do I put down?" Conventional wisdom centers around either putting down as much as you can or as little as the lender allows.
If you put down a large payment, you get some leverage with the lender, such as little or no mortgage insurance, a good equity position, and perhaps a preferred mortgage deal. You will also have lower mortgage payments. One potential disadvantage of a large down payment is that you will be using after-tax dollars on which you could be earning interest. You will also have less tax-deductible interest.
When you buy a home with a low down payment, you will have more tax deductible interest, and your investment value percentage will increase faster. You will have little equity at the outset, and your monthly mortgage payments (and perhaps your interest) will be higher. However, you will also keep more of your own money in hand to potentially earn more interest in other investments.
