While most towns in the northeast New Jersey are being urbanized rapidly, the residents of the tiny borough of Leonia fight to keep its open spaces and true "bedroom community" style, warding off the high-rises found in its neighboring town of Ft. Lee.
Leonia Schools include Anna C. Scott Elementary School (K-5), Leonia Middle School (6-8), Leonia High School (9-12) and Early Childhood Center for preschoolers. Academically Gifted Programs and English as a Second Language are offered, as well as After School Enrichments and After School Day Care. Each school has an active Home and School Association.
Leonia is the home of Overpeck Park which features a top-notch golf course and where hundreds of people exercise, picnic, bicycle, rollerblade, jog, play tennis and toss frisbees.

It shall be prohibited to have a pet off leash in any park in Leonia except as follows:

(1) Lakeview Park shall be available for off-leash pet hours at the following times:
- (a) Weekday mornings from 7:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

- (c) From March 11 through November 4 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and sunset.
- (d) From November 5 through March 10 between the hours of 3:30 p.m. and sunset.

In addition to Leonia’s new website, the monthly Senior Calendar of Events, as well as the Monthly Leonia Bus Schedule, are available the beginning of each month at Borough Hall, the Recreation Center, Borough Annex, The Glenwood, and the Library.
If anyone has difficulty getting to the aforementioned places, please call me at (201) 302-9660 and request they be mailed to you each month.
The monthly calendar features the daily activities and events as well as the trips being offered.
The Recreation Center accepts trip sign-ups on the following dates and times: 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesdays. Trip forms must be completed (including emergency contact information) and accompanied by check or cash to reserve your seat.
Bingo games are twice a month—the first and fourth Thursday at 10 a.m.Come join us for some fun and continental breakfast. Leisure Club meets the second Thursday each month for fellowship, luncheon, and special programs. You must be a member of the Leisure Club to participate. Anyone interested in playing cards is invited to join the Card Players Group in the lower level of the Borough Annex on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Interested in bowling, call Bowler City in Hackensack (201) 224-3876 to join Leonia’s bowling league which meets on Tuesdays, at 1 p.m.

The Leonia Senior Bus operates Monday through Thursday.You must 60 years ‘young’ or be a resident over age 18 and on Medicare Disability.
Registration forms are available at the Recreation Center.Once we have your completed registration form (including emergency contact), you may call for bus pick-up at (201) 302-9667. The following is the weekly schedule for the bus: Monday (two trips to Shop-Rite – 8:45 a.m. and 10:15 a.m.), Tuesday and Thursday are for medical appointments, Wednesday the bus goes to a different mall each week.
Guidelines for using the bus are outlined on the Monthly Bus Schedule.
