Bergen County School Information
Tenafly Schools:
The district serves 3,680 students, with four primary schools, a middle school, and a high school, which was named by New Jersey Monthly in 1996 as the best in the state. Tenafly boasts a broad range of advanced placement and honors courses, including an interdepartmental humanities honors class which focuses on the historical and cultural development of Western civilization. More than 87% of graduates go on to higher education. Another noteworthy aspect of the school system is its music program, which runs from kindergarten through graduation. There is also a gifted and talented program called the Talent Bank, where volunteer boost classroom programs with their practical experience.

Englewood Cliffs Schools:
This district has two schools: North Cliff School of grades 1-3, and Upper School for grades 4 - 8. High School students are sent to Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood. The district constantly updates its curriculum. Science is now taught at every grade level, emphasizing lab work and practical applications. Daily journal writing is an English requirement. Alls students grade 3-8 study Spanish, and 8th graders study Latin.

The Demarest school system is a compelling reason for families with children to make their home in the borough. The district operates three elementary schools, each with an uncommonly low student-teacher ratio. Demarest teenagers attend Northern Valley Regional High School, which was ranked 19th in the state by New Jersey Monthly magazine. The school serves some 1000 students. Placement classes in U.S. and European history, biology, chemistry, physics, calculus, Spanish, English literature and composition, and economics are offered. SAT scores are at least 50 points above the state averages. Ninety-two percent of high-school graduates go on to attend college.

Cresskill Schools:

 Edward H. Bryan Elementary School
Cresskill prides itself on its schools. About 95 percent of the high school graduates go on to college. The system is very small, with 1,152 students divided between the Junior/Senior High School and two elementary schools, the Merritt School and Edward H. Bryan School. Students with outstanding ability and those with special needs are given special attention. The high school offers advanced placement courses in English literature, history, mathematics, and foreign languages and fields fifteen varsity athletic teams.

Closter Schools:

 Closter Middle School
The Closter school system has some 900 students, spread among grades kindergarten through 8. Closter has a low ratio of teachers to students, about 1 to 15. Closter High School students attend Northern Valley Regional High School in Demarest, which was ranked 19th among New Jersey Schools. 85% of the school's graduates go on to higher education. With computers and Internet access, the high school is one of the most technologically advanced in the country, receiving the Blue Ribbon honors in technology.

Most first-time buyers can qualify for a mortgage loan, but they may need help from parents to make the down payment or closing costs on their home. There are loan programs that minimize the down payment and closing costs for first-time buyers. These programs usually require that 3 to 5 percent of the purchase price come from the buyers' funds, not from a loan or gift. Most lenders ask for the last three months' bank records. The borrower will be asked to reveal the origin of any large deposits. If the money comes from the homebuyer's parents, the lender may not consider those funds when qualifying the buyers.
Parents who are planning to help their children finance a home should transfer any funds several months before the house-hunting process begins. If it is a loan rather than a gift, a formal re-payment agreement should be drawn up between parents and children to eliminate potential misunderstandings or future complications with either estate.
