Serious shoppers flock from all around the state and beyond to Bergen County's plethora of upscale retail stores. The Garden State Plaza in Paramus is New Jersey's largest mall with five anchors - Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Macy's, Lord & Taylor and JC Penney - plus more than 300 specialty stores. Also in Paramus are the Bergen Town Center Mall, Paramus Park Mall, The Fashion Center and The Shops at Riverside in Hackensack features Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's and Tiffany & Co.

Spend time in any of the downtown areas for a small town feel. There are many boutique-style stores that offer a diverse selection of clothing and merchandise. There is sure to be something there for everyone!

Bergen County Blue Laws:

Bergen County is subject to blue laws, which restrict shopping on Sunday. The long-standing blue laws prohibit the sale of clothing, furniture and electric appliances on that day, leaving malls and most stores closed on Sunday. Basics such as grocery stores, convenience stores, gas stations, and restaurants are open. For other needs, shoppers head to nearby New York City, Rockland County, New York and other North Jersey counties, where stores are open on Sunday.

Bergen County Schools - the educational system is excellent. Each town has its own school system and many of these are leaders in developing innovative educational programs. Special programs are available in most school districts. Bergen County Academy in Hackensack is a premier school which includes Academies for Advancement of Science and Technology, Business and Finance, Engineering and Design, Medical Science and Technology, Culinary and Hotel Management, Telecommunications and Computer Science and Visual Performing Arts.
